The Central Meteorological Observatory (CMA) has issued the latest typhoon bulletin: The residual vortex of Saudel is expected to redevelop and intensify after moving over the sea; Bualoi will gradually undergo extratropical transition; Atsani has ceased numbering.

I. Residual Vortex of Saudel Expected to Redevelop and Intensify After Moving Over the Sea

The center of the residual vortex of Typhoon No. 18 Saudel, after weakening, moved from Cenxi City, Wuzhou City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region into Maoming City, Guangdong Province last night. At 05:00 today (August 31), its center was located over the offshore waters east of Leizhou City, Guangdong Province (20.7°N, 110.4°E).

It is expected that the residual vortex of Saudel will move southward, turning eastward, at a speed of 15–20 km/h during the daytime today. After merging with a tropical disturbance in the South China Sea, it will turn toward the east-northeast and may develop into a tropical depression or a numbered typhoon.

Affected by the combined influence of Saudel’s residual vortex, the monsoon trough, and cold air, from 08:00 on August 31 to 08:00 on September 1, heavy to torrential rain is expected in parts of central-southern Jiangsu, eastern and southern Anhui, northwestern and southeastern Zhejiang, southeastern Hubei, northwestern and eastern Jiangxi, eastern Hunan, central-eastern and southwestern Guangdong, eastern Fujian, Hainan Island, and central-southern Taiwan Island. Among these, rainstorms to extremely heavy rainstorms (250–350 mm) are expected in parts of central-southern Jiangsu, southeastern Anhui, northwestern Jiangxi, northern Guangdong, the southeastern coast of Fujian, central-western Hainan Island, southern Taiwan Island, southeastern Xizang (Tibet), and eastern Jilin.

II. Bualoi to Gradually Undergo Extratropical Transition

The center of Typhoon No. 23 Bualoi (tropical storm level) was located over the northwestern Pacific Ocean about 2,310 km east-southeast of Tokyo, Japan at 05:00 today (31st), at 36.2°N, 165.4°E. Maximum sustained winds near the center were Force 8 on the Beaufort scale (20 m/s), with a central pressure of 995 hPa. The radius of gale-force winds (Level 7) was 50–200 km.

Bualoi is expected to continue moving rapidly northward at 25–30 km/h and gradually undergo extratropical transition. It will have no future impact on China.

III. Atsani Ceases Numbering

Typhoon No. 22 Atsani weakened into a tropical depression at 05:00 today. Its winds have further weakened, and its circulation center has become difficult to determine. The CMA ceased its numbering at 05:00.
